I think depende sa iyo yan. Kung hindi mo kaya mag-multi-task, siguro you should concentrate on a certain task na lang.

Pero for me, you just need to manage your time wisely. Ako (for example), I'm working + studying at the same time. I need to work para may money ako for allowance and syempre sa next tuition fee ko. Tapos I can still manage to practice my violin everyday, kahit sandaling oras lang para ma-maintain ang skill level ko.

so it's up to you how to weigh the two tasks.

saka, as I said to my students, kahit 5 minutes na practice lang everyday, it's okay, as long as you finish your objectves sa practice. :)

minsan nga, sa pagviviolin mo matatandaan yung concepts sa ibang subjects like Math, Science, English (as I have said to Ito dun sa isang thread)

O sige, obviously mas priority ang UPCAT. Hehe. Pero you can still practice during breaks in your review naman eh. Stress-relief din yun. Tsaka ako nga, hindi nag-review. Nagdala lang ako ng madaming tsokolate pambaon. Wehehe.

I think you can still play the violin, but you must put more emphasis on studying since your future is at stake here. The violin will always be there for you, it's your loyal friend.

Hindi naman deadly magpractice ng atleast 30mins a day. Kung si sarah chang nga nagpapraktis kahit sobrang hectic sched nya. What more ikaw? Isipin mo na lang si sarah chang.


Laurie: What are some of the things you have to do to keep a high level of technique and to keep it in your fingers?

Sarah Chang: Basics, every day. There's no other secret, really. I wish there were! (She laughs) Scales, arpeggios, thirds, octaves – the regular stuff you would hate as a student, you need to do it every day. When you have a schedule like this... some days when you can manage to squeeze in 4-5 hours, that's great. There are other days when you've just gotten off a 15-hour flight and you're so exhausted you can't even see straight, then I do my scales, all the basics. Even if it means I'll just touch the violin 30 minutes before collapsing in bed, I'll still do the basics. Even if you have three concertos and four sonatas that you need to look at, I'll start with the basics.

Laurie: You never get to a point where you can graduate from the scales.

Sarah Chang: I wish! I do the Galamian and the Flesch, I certainly use both.

Laurie: Etudes?

Sarah Chang: There are some I do to get the fingers warmed up in the morning. The normal stuff: the Kreutzer, the Sevcik, the Dont, the Gavinies, Ysaye – all that stuff. All the stuff you hated as a child. (She laughs)

i suggest you practice violin before you start reviewing for your UPCAT, you know how much focus and concentration you need just to finish a task in violin.. a 30-min practice would set your brain to function efficiently under pressure (scales, arpeggios..), you don't even need to play your current piece/s.. and then again when you feel dizzy from reviewing academics, balance it with 30mins break (take-in some fresh air outside) afterwards, before resuming on your review, set your concentration capacity again by doing violin exercises, this time for 15-30mins.. don't over-review or over practice, eat healthy too for a stress-free routine.. goodluck!

trust and conquer LUIGI-KUN.. papasa ka.. nung ako mag entrance exam e sa 1 university lang.. kung san ko lang gusto pumasok.. ayun.. pasado.. if not, siguro sinasaka ko ngayon maliit na lupa namin sa province (no offense to farmers).. hahhaha.. isipin mo ano mangyari sa mga daliri ko.. basta relax lang, wag masyado dibdibin, wag na wag ka magpupuyat at least 8hrs ang tulog mo para well-rested ang katawan at ang utak, wag din skip ng meals (+ snacks).. goodluck hijo!!

Kumusta..? Luigi, ano ba kukunin mo sa UP? Kung mag BM ka, kelangan maipasa mo ang UPCAT, kung di ka makapasa, you can still take DCPMA, 4-years diploma course ng UP yan na hindi na need ng UPCAT, then you can purse BM later sa UP din.

Para hindi OT sa TS here's my two cents. Gaya ng advise ng nakakarami dito, just know your priorities and FTF (First things first), reviewing for UPCAT doesn't mean you have no more time on other things. Violin practice could be 30mins to an hour a day is enough to exercise your fingers. Set your objectives and identify what needs to be done first so that you will know alin ang High, medium and low priorities.

d ako nakapagreview, dapat kasi magrereview ako sa msa nung summer, kaso nasidetrack dhil sa financial. hai buhay,, ngaun may mga review sessions kmi sa school, libre sya kea dun ko na ngaun sinusulit hahaha

If UP is for you, you dont need to review super intensively. just brush up on the topics and put them into heart. kasi the UPCAT is not to test how well you reviewed. It tests how well you did in all your subjects (in the previous years) and how "dedicated" you are in studying.

Citing myself as an example, hinulahulaan ko almost 100% sa math part. as in less than 1/8 ng isang page ng scratch paper (which probably means magaling akong manghula at swerte lang) yung may solution pero i still got in. Probably, im meant for UP.

Just believe in yourself and pray hard.

For music, hindi naman (yata) UP ang number 1. so with that in mind, if you are going to take BM and you didnt make it to UP, hindi (naman ata) UP ang best sa music. so still go for the best. :P

I think that UPCAT has this reputation dahil sila ang parating nauuna. Kaka-start pa lang ng school year, entrance exam na agad so I guess understandable na maraming nasisiraan ng bait because of this.

Pero once you get the hang of it especially if you take other college entrance exams coupled with the usual standardized exams ng mga seniors, parang routine na lang ang mga ito. And di ka na masyado mag-panic.

haha.. Ito, I passed UPCAT without having rigid review. But I end up enrolling at PWU instead. Saka BFA ang kukunin ko dapat sa UP. kaya, tama si macky. :) Saka, as far as I can remember, UP looks at the 3rd year HS grade din kaya I think hindi lang UPCAT ang factor. hehe.. IMO lang.

I took the UPCAT without going through review (puyat pa ko nung night before kakalaro ng playstation).
I bought a review book but my classmates used it instead.
But then again, I passed and graduated there.
So wag ka masyado kabahan. chill lang.
besides, makakatulong actually ang pagpractice ng violin kasi marerelax ka dapat nun for some time. hehe...

Since 6:30 sched namin, we went there the day before, so tapos na yung main purpose namin (yung overnight) by the time we took the UPCAT.

So ang feeling ko nun, kaya lang ako mag-eexam kasi yun yung kabayaran nung overnight namin. Basta nagbaon lang ako ng sangkatutak na chocolates (secret daw ng isang bar topnotcher way way back hehe) at nag-enjoy kumain.

Actually ngayon, all I remember about the exam itself was that super nashock ako nung naging tagalog yung math tsaka science ba yun? Pero when they ask me kung mahirap, I really can't answer kasi I didn't take it seriously.
Basta ang alam ko masarap yung chocolate tsaka masaya yung overnight namin.
